Another protest was held in front of the government building today as a group of people were fighting against the violation of their property rights.

President of the "Defense of Property Rights" NGO Vachagan Hakobyan has been fighting against illegal actions for 7 years. He was taken out of his home on Pushkin 30 Street without even compensation of at least half of the price of his home.

"I met with Mayor Gagik Beglaryan nearly two years ago and he promised to reconsider the people's right to property. In other words, they had to return the stolen homes and lands, but it turns out that he simply had a goal to split our movement," said Hakobyan.

Mariam Gishyan is a mother of five and has been living on rent for 7 years. In 2003, the court ruled to provide her with a 4-bedroom apartment in front of the apartment located on Lalayants 30 Street in Yerevan. However, instead of that, she was offered 20,000 dollars and the court ruling was ignored. "I asked Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan why they tricked me and he said they do whatever they want. They stole my belongings and I barely helped my children escape from under the ruins of my home. Now they have given me 20,000 dollars, but there is no document to confirm that."

Mariam Gishyan has no alternative and is planning on taking political refuge in another country. Resident of Byuzand 9 Street Knarik Arakelyan has received 46,000 dollars in exchange for her 125 square meter home, but in supplements. "That's why I wasn't able to purchase at least a one-bedroom apartment. But the mayor announced that he had given me 930,000 dollars and I was demanding more."

The parents of soldiers who died in peace were also holding a protest in front of the government.
