Meat processors do not use buffalo meat
Local meat processors say they follow Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan's advice and avoid using buffalo meat.
Nevertheless, Director of "Bari Samaratsi" Company Hovhannes Hovakimyan partly disagrees with the Armenian premier. He says during his stay in India he visited a few factories producing buffalo meat to get acquainted with their working conditions.
"I would like to see the same cleanness and discipline in Armenia," said Mr. Hovakimyan who stopped using buffalo meat in his factory products in 2009 conforming to the prime minister's decree.
"Today, we import meat from Brazil, Canada and Uruguay and use only good-quality product," said the director. The same is true with Biella meat processing and packing factory while Geghard Company uses solely local meat as it gives little production.
In August 2009, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan announced that Armenian processors import low-quality buffalo meat from India which is used in the production of sausages. He underlined that meat processing factories in Armenia failed to meet quality standards and ensure elementary hygienic norms.
