The African plague has broken out in some regions of Armenia again, but there is still a lot of pork sold at markets in Yerevan. Butchers at "Gum" market assured that there is no bad meat.

"We don't sell meat without laboratory inspection," says butcher Andranik. He says people are not in panic and buy pork when they have the money.

The butcher also said that the price for pork hasn't changed. "There are many pigs in Armenia. We don't sell the pork from the regions, but from individual farmers," says Andranik.

The market's laboratory doctor also confirmed. "There is no meat coming from regions that have been declared as quarantine. We conduct daily inspections and then sell the meat," says doctor Telman Davtyan.

Unlike butchers, buyers have become more cautious when buying pork. Mrs. Svetlana no longer approaches meat after hearing about the plague. Anahit Poghosyan prefers to buy meat from the stores because, according to her the meat is inspected and then sold.

In any case, the market's laboratory doctor Telman Davtyan warns once again that if pork infected by the African plague is even sold on the streets, it won't be transmitted to humans. "People are not infected by meat. Only pigs can be infected by other pigs," says Davtyan.
