Environmentalists are very concerned about the construction of a dolphinarium near the park on Komitas Street.

President of "Bird Fans Center" NGO Silva Adamyan is planning to appeal to Yerevan municipality and the RA Ministry of Nature Protection with the demand to present documents on permission to import dolphins to Armenia.

There have not been any public discussions on building a dolphinarium. "Didn't the Institute of Zoology have to know about this? The weather conditions in Armenia don't allow the creation of a site for dolphins. We need to hear the experts' opinions," Silva Adamyan told "EcoLur" and added that this is an exploitation of animals.

Armenia will need 1,500 cubic meters of drinking water to keep the dolphins and that must be refreshed through the circulating water supply. According to environmentalist Knarik Hovhannisyan, the agency for water resource management at the RA Ministry of Nature Protection has not received a notice of the construction, which presupposes that "Yerevan Water" will be providing the water for the dolphins.

According to environmentalists' sources, former mayor of Yerevan Yervand Zakharyan is building the dolphinarium and a Ukrainian company will be bringing dolphins from Odessa to Armenia.
