Facing the fact
The RA Law on "Compulsory car insurance", which will enter into force on January 1, 2011, has already caused problems, especially for owners of taxi services.
The amount for cars will range from 19,000 to 106,000 drams.
The owners of a number of taxi services in Yerevan told "A1+" that they still haven't decided what they are going to do. Today each taxi service has an average of 10-12 cars and according to the owners many of those cars have been imported since 2000.
"In this case, we will be forced to pay at least 40,000 drams for each car and the amount for 22 cars in two months is huge," said representatives of "Saran" taxi service.
Coordinator at the service Ashot Grigoryan told "A1+" that many of their service cars are at pawn shops and the taxi service needs time to solve the problem with car insurance.
The representatives of another taxi service wished to remain anonymous, but informed that the service will be forced to borrow a lot of money or sell one of the cars to pay for insurance of all cars at once.
The "Lada" taxi service representatives stated that they are facing unforeseen financial difficulties.
"We don't have much income and are in a difficult state. We knew that there had to be insurance, but we weren't able and now we face the fact. It would be nice if we were allowed to pay the insurance throughout the year," the service director told "A1+".
There were also taxi services that informed us that the process is underway.
Let us mention that according to the service owners, they insure the cars under the drivers' names. The owners say they employ experienced drivers up to the age of 28 with at least two years of experience in driving.
Let us remind that drivers will be fined in case they don't sign an insurance agreement.
