Court to announce verdict on Nov. 29

On November 29, a court in Kotayk marz will announce a verdict in the case of Vahan Khalafian, who died in police custody in April 2010.

Khalafian, 24, was summoned to the police headquarters in Charentsavan town on April 13, 2010, on charges of theft. Later, he was found dead in the police department. According to the official version, Khalafian committed suicide.

Four policemen face charges of abuse of authority and ill-treatment - Ashot Harutyunyan, Mores Hyrapetyan, Garik Davtyan and Gagik Ghzaryan. They reportedly drove Khalafian to commit suicide.

The accusant has demanded 8 years' imprisonment for the main defendant Ashot Harutyunyan, former head of Charentsavan Criminal Investigation Department, and 1-2 years for the others.
