Who will be the next mayor?
The vacant position of mayor of Yerevan has turned into a topic for discussion after Gagik Beglaryan's resignation. Rumor has it that the top contenders are first deputy mayor, acting mayor Taron Margaryan and Head of "ArmRusGazard" Karen Karapetyan.
However, "ArmRusGazard" refused to comment on the rumors about Karapetyan's nomination.
The Republican faction of the Council of Elders told "A1+" that the council is still undecided. Press speaker for the BHK (Prosperous Armenia) Party Khachik Galstyan recalled that their party will not nominate anyone and will wait for the Republican Party's candidate.
The mayor of Yerevan will be elected during the December 17 session of the Council of Elders. Since there are two factions in the council-the HHK and the BHK- and the HHk has an absolute majority in the council, it is clear that the Republican Party can "make" any candidate mayor.
Who will be the next mayor of Yerevan? A small survey by "A1+" showed that citizens only mentioned Taron Margaryan, but most citizens said they didn't know or aren't involved in politics.
Some say the incident was not the only reason for Gagik Beglaryan's resignation and that it was an opportunity to "give a warning".
