"Serious changes are expected in the sphere of education in 2011," Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan told reporters on January 17.

The Minister expressed discontent with the activity of the State Inspectorate of Education. Among the priorities of 2011, the Minister pointed out the process of implementation of anti-corruption strategy, organisation of admission in colleges and vocational schools, etc.

"The ministry will work to improve the process of entry exams in 2012 to avoid scandals and spontaneous incidents," said Armen Ashotyan adding that some private higher educational establishments will be closed in the republic.

Educational programs will also be changed in 2011, with 15-20% of subjects being facilitated.
"We aim to make public education available and comprehensible," said Minister Ashotyan adding that the Council of Europe will assist in the implementation of educational programs.

Speaking about the opening of foreign-language schools in Armenia, which aroused deep public discontent in 2010, Minister Ashotyan said, "I am not going to discuss the events that took place in the country in 2010. I spoke about it in my year-end press conference. I pardon many people and many expressions."
