Clothes prices will double
Hundreds of traders working at the fair in Yerevan gathered near the government building today to protest the rise of custom fees.
The demonstrators complain that the custom fee for 1 kg of products at border customs point has risen from the previous 4 dollars to 8 dollars. They wish to meet with the Prime Minister and inform him about their issue of concern.
"They have increased the prices for the product's weight and we are no longer able to bring the products to Armenia. The people will not be able to purchase clothes under these conditions," say traders.
The traders of "Malatia" fair made it to the government building by foot. The acting chief of staff of the government Tigran Gevorgyan received some demonstrators.
The demonstrators said the government representative had informed them that the shipping companies had increased the price and that they [the demonstrators] are trying to find out the reason for the price increase.
The demonstrators have been promised a response by the end of the work day.
"We will not leave until we receive a response and will even hold a sitting strike since this is the solution to our issue," said one trader.
Police didn't let the demonstrators stand in front of the government building and they moved to a side.
