Protest car march toward Bavra
Drivers of Gyumri with Georgian state license numbers organized another protest car march moving from Gyumri to the Bavra passing point.
Despite police officers' efforts to stop traffic, the drivers reached Bavra. The drivers are protesting against the legislative reforms obliging drivers to change the Georgian state license numbers within 15 days.
The drivers are also protesting against the customs clearance fees for cars in Armenia. If they are able to clear customs for cars in Georgia for 1,100 dollars, that amount is 3,700 dollars in Armenia.
"There are up to 45,000 drivers with Georgian state license numbers. If we cleared our cars at the customs point in Georgia and have to clear them in Armenia as well, it turns out that we lose the 1,100 dollars we spend in Georgia. Why didn't they tell us that in advance?" said one of the drivers.
The law also hurts Armenians in Javakhk who have the right to be in Armenia for 90 days during the year if they cross the passing point with their cars.
Participating in the protest car march are "Heritage" MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan, Stepan Safaryan and leader of the People's Party Tigran Karapetyan.
There are over 100 cars and joining them the cars of Noyemberyan with Georgian state license numbers.
