Drivers specify further actions
The drivers of cars with Georgian state license numbers and "Heritage" MPs are currently holding a joint meeting to specify future actions after the rally held at the Theatrical Square in Gyumri, The drivers have also selected a coordinating body.
Let us remind that during yesterday's NA-Government question-and-answer session, the "Heritage" party transmitted its clear demands from the authorities, particularly
1. reinstate the initial version of the law
2. set the 2,000 dram monthly fee for crossing the border at least once a month
3. make a radical change in the system of calculating the customs clearance for cars, which is currently being implemented with coarse violations of the law.
Armen Martirosyan also informed the government that the drivers are ready to fight until the end in accordance with the law. He also called on the government to not interfere, not take illegal actions and allow citizens to express their fair protest.
Let us remind that this morning a march of cars moved from Gyumri to the Bavra customs passing point. Nearly 200 drivers drove through Gyumri to Bavra to express their protest against the new terms and conditions for customs clearance of cars, which was established in the law by the decision of the NA majority on 22 December 2010. "Heritage" MPs also participated in the action.
At the Bavra passing point, the drivers and the representatives of public-political forces held a short picket, after which they presented a demand to extend the deadline for cars with Georgian state license numbers for a month.
Donated to fill the budget
The drivers of cars with Georgian state license numbers continued the action that was launched in the morning at the Theatrical Square in Gyumri. "Heritage" MPs Stepan Safaryan, Armen Martirosyan and Zaruhi Postanjyan called on the drivers to fight until the end.
The protesters are demanding that the authorities extend the change of the law for at least a year. In addition, the drivers suggest paying 2,000 drams for crossing the border once a month under the temporary import regime.
In his speech, Armen Martirosyan said the authorities are trying to do whatever it takes to fill the budget.
"The authorities say those purchasing cars can pay those fees as well. That is absurd since none of the cars with Georgian state license numbers can be considered luxurious," said Zaruhi Postanjyan. She called on them to make a donation to fill the government's budget and the drivers quickly filled the hat in the center with small money. Two of the drivers from Gyumri each placed 1,000 drams and asked the MP to give it to Tigran Sargsyan.
In the end, the MPs and the drivers determined their further actions.
