Protest in Yerevan coverts into clashes
Former open-air vendors and policemen came into conflict outside the Yerevan Municipality on February 28.
A woman was taken to hospital with injuries. Heritage Party MP Zaruhi was pulled out during the incident.
A month after assuming office [December, 2010], Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan made a decision to clear the streets and territories adjacent to markets from individual traders.
Open-air vendors are protesting the municipality's clampdown on street trade. They demand that the new mayor open new working places instead of leaving hundreds of desperate vendors jobless.
