On World Consumer Rights Day, citizens of Armenia are complaining about the high food prices and regretting that consumers' rights are not protected in Armenia.

The day has been officially celebrated since March 15, 1962.

"The government is not overseeing the trade sector. There have to be concrete prices for the products that are needed the most so that the prices will not go up or down immediately," Nona Adamyan told "A1+".

Consumers are not only complaining about the high prices, but the low-quality food sold in stores and supermarkets.

"You don't know what you're taking home," says Astghik Hayrapetyan.

Garush Asatryan mentioned that very often stores don't take back the low-quality food and say the customer hasn't purchased the product at their store, but they keep the receipt.

"How can I live a normal life in this country where I receive 15,000 dram pension and pay 5,000 drams for meat?" asked Aram Khanoyan.

President of the "Consumers' Association" NGO Armen Poghosyan shares citizens' views and says despite the bad situation, all is not lost. According to him, Armenia's legislators aren't concentrating on urgent and important issues.
