Promising start
The 12th European Individual Chess Championship kicked off in Aix-les-Bains, France, on March 22.The championship will be an 11-round Swiss system tournament with a prize fund of €120 000. The winner will receive €20 000.
In Round 1, Armenian chess players scored 7 victories in 9 games.
Armenian Gabriel Sargsyan, Zaven Andeasyan, Arman Pashikyan, Avetik Grigoryan, Hrant Melkumyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Robert Hovhannisyan won their rivals. Vladimir Hakobyan tied his game and Vladimir Poghosyan suffered a defeat.
