One legged wrestler wins NCAA championship
Arizona State wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born without a right leg, became an NCAA champion Saturday night when he won his 125-pound final at the Division I Wrestling Championships. The bout took place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, in front of 20 000 viewers.
Robles took a 7-1 decision from Iowa sophomore Matt McDonough.
Robles got the only takedown, in the first period of the match, and worked a pair of tilts to secure five back points.
"I really don't see missing my leg as a handicap. You know, my parents raised me strong and they didn't give me any special treatment. So, I believe I can do anything I set my mind to. Wrestling is something I enjoy, I love it and I'm just trying to be the best at it," Robles said after the bout.
