The Sun will be more active next year
Since 1994, the European chapter of Solar Energy International has been marking International Sun Day on May 3.
The sun is the most powerful source of universal energy for the planet. It ensures the light and warmth for the fauna and animal world and shapes the atmosphere of our planet.
"Despite the fact that the sun is considered the only, most significant source of light and that everything depends on this star, only rare places mark Sun Day and I regret to say that there is still no tradition of celebrating this day," Byurakan Observatory director Hayk Harutyunyan told "A1+".
Hayk Harutyunyan says the daily short changes that take place on the sun are normal. As for large-scale changes, there haven't been any registered because a one percent change would have become a serious reason for big disasters.
According to the Byurakan Observatory director, we are gradually approaching the most active period of the Sun, that is, late 2012 and early 2013.
Hayk Harutyunyan recalls that the Sun is actually considered a dwarf or an average star that is less active than younger and "more dangerous" stars.
"Like people, there are older stars and in this case, the Sun, is calmer," said Harutyunyan.
According to Hayk Harutyunyan, the rumors about the end of the world on 21 December 2012 are simply predictions and will stay in the past.
"Mankind has always been predicting the end of the world and, fortunately, those predictions have not been accurate. Nothing unusual will happen. As far as different types of extractions are concerned, there will always be extractions since the Sun is a living organism that is endowed with a certain energy," says Harutyunyan.
To those who believe in the predictions, Hayk Harutyunyan invites them to gather on 23 December 2012 and note that the rumors about the end of the world were false once again.
