On May 12, it will be four years since Levon Gulyan's death.

On May 12, 2007, Gulyan was taken to the Police Headquarters of the Republic of Armenia to serve as a witness in a murder that took place in the vicinity of his workplace. A few hours later, his family was informed of his death. Police officers have given different version as to the circumstances of his death: some stated that he died after jumping from the 3rd floor window, trying to escape, while others said he had committed suicide. Gulyan's family believes that he died as a result of beating and torture.
Yerevan courts have dismissed the appeal of the aggrieved party legal successors for three times in four years, citing the "lack of evidence."

The legal successors regularly appeal to Armenian courts requesting to review the case material but to no avail.

Chairman of the Civil Society Institute Arman Danielyan notes that even the courts do not believe the ridiculous and incomplete data presented during the previous trials.

In August 2010 the Court of Cassation accepted the claim of the injured party, and the Special Investigation Service was instructed to resume the investigation. The investigation started only 4 months after the court decision and was dismissed in March2011 due to "lack of corpus delicti."

Arman Danielyan believes that the police and the Special Investigation Service are playing for time and do not intend to disclose the murder.

"However, I want to warn our authorities that we are resolute to bring the perpetrators to court," Danielyan told a press conference on May 11.

Hrayr Ghukasyan, the representative of Gulyan's legal successor, said that the police, prosecutors and Special Investigation Service are trying their best to conceal the facts.

Their efforts to dismiss the case are simply cynical. All these structures are attempting to create an illusion that the fate of criminal cases is determined by courts," said Ghukasyan.

The court hearing is set for May 13.
