What do Serzh Sargsyan's fellow villagers want?
Support A1+!Serzh Sargsyan's fellow villagers from Tegh village don't believe he is capable of returning even one piece of the liberated territories to Azerbaijan.
"If he does that, what is the point of living here? We will have to go to other countries. Did we fight for those lands to return them? No, Serzh Sargsyan won't do such a thing," Tegh villager, 71-year old Martun Snetsunts told "A1+".
Snetsunts doesn't consider Serzh Sargsyan, in his words, "a Tegh villager".
"Serzh Sargsyan's father and grandparents were born in our village, but he was born in Karabakh. When he was the prime minister, he came to our village and we took pride in seeing a prime minister from our village. Now he's far from us. We can neither love him nor hate him. He gave us gas and water, but they are expensive. All we want from him is to lower the prices."
Tegh is the village which seriously defended itself during the Artsakh war. "We only lost 32 innocent people. They simply left the house and died from explosions. The Azerbaijani reached our village, but we pushed them away."
We met Martun as he was moving the herd of sheep. He has been entrusted with 86 sheep and one of the villagers takes the herd every day.
There are currently 500 families living in the village and they are mainly living on cattle-raising.
"It's hard to make a living here. The people live well if there is harvest. In 1992, lands were privatized, but we are able to bring fertilizers which cost up to 10,000 drams. We have the land, but can't cultivate it to receive harvest. We spend nearly 100,000 drams for 1 hectare, but don't receive any crops," said Martun.
It's hard living in Tegh today, but this is one of the exceptional villagers where the youth don't leave.
"There is a lack of jobs, but the youth stay. Nobody has left since the war. There are cases when men leave for Russia in search of work, but they come back. It would be nice if the government decided to do something for the youth; otherwise, if they leave us elders, it will be very hard for us to live."
