Inspections at atomic station are over
The International Atomic Energy Agency has drawn positive and negative conclusions based on an inspection of Armenia's Atomic Energy Station. The agency is in Armenia at the invitation of the RA Government.
"We're not assessing what's good or bad, but registering the spheres where it is possible to raise the level of security," Mission Director Vamush Gabor told journalists, adding that the agency has not registered anything unusual.
The mission has given the Armenian Atomic Energy Station 16 suggestions and 14 proposals and has taken 7 steps. As for the fact that 2015 marks the deadline for the exploitation of the atomic station in Metsamor, Mr. Gabor assured that there are many countries with extended deadlines for exploitation and that that has not caused any problems.
Executive Director of the Armenian Atomic Station Gagik Markosyan assured that the visit of the IAEA was aimed at comparing the Armenian experience with international standards.
Markosyan mentioned that the Armenian atomic station was receiving this type of an international delegation for the first time.
"We have taken the responsibility of receiving this delegation in 18 months with the purpose of checking to see our activities based on their observations," said Gagik Markosyan. The latter assured that he would assign his employees to prepare drafts to carry out the proposals and suggestions.
According to the IAEA Director, Armenia must make efforts in terms of changing the security system at the atomic station in Metsamor. According to mission director Vamush Gabor, the Armenian Atomic Energy Station must find new solutions to the issue of security and help the staff obtain the latest technologies and knowledge about those technologies.
