As of June 6, there are 55 patients diagnosed with an enteric bacterial infection in Yerevan's Nork Infection Hospital, including 14 adults and 42 children.

"The last patient was brought to hospital on Sunday evening, at about 11:40 p.m. Seventeen people were discharged from hospital on the same day," Armenia's chief infection specialist Ara Asoyan told A1+.

Asoyan says that the results of the laboratory test will be available either today or tomorrow.

Mane Mamyan, a representative of Yerevan Djur Company, says they performed laboratory analysis upon getting the alarm and revealed that the problem lies in water pipes serving private houses which are outside the company's jurisdiction.

"The water pipes causing contamination have been blocked to stop the further spread of the infection. We have also taken security measures and disinfected them with chlorine in order to improve the quality of water," she said noting that the water pipes were laid about 30 years old and are already worn out.
Mane Mamyan advised residents to avoid drinking water unless their received the test results.

The first citizens were hospitalized on June 3, with acute enteric infection caused by drinking water.
