Although Mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan told journalists today that metro token prices would go up starting July 1, over 200 people have already started a petition called "We are against metro inflation" on Facebook.

The participants of the petition have also expressed their protest on Karen Karapetyan's Facebook page.

Arman Gevorgyan calls on everyone to demand the mayor's resignation, saying that he is not working to meet some people's demands.

"Students and the elderly are the main people taking the metro and the inflation hits their pockets first. The mayor chose the right time to increase metro token prices when students are about to finish their studies," writes Arman.

Mariam is for the inflation, but there is one "if".

"The inflation should lead to the construction of new metro stations, including Malatia-Sebastia, Zeytun, Raykom, Nor-Nork, Avan...However, I am certain that the mayor doesn't have such plans."

Anahit Manukyan mentions that metro token prices are rather high in many countries. "It costs 28 rubles in Russia (370 drams). That is nearly 7 times more expensive than in Armenia, but the salary is definitely not 7 times higher in Armenia."

Citizens are protesting, but they are also "coming to grips" and trying to find ways out of this situation.

"I will buy 500 tokens tomorrow. I travel by metro every day anyway," says Mary Prazyan.

Hovik Hovhannisyan offers an alternative means of transportation. "I say we swallow our pride and make a transition to riding bicycles."

Armine Geghamyan is preparing everyone for more inflation and says the inflation will hit microbuses next.
