Citizens of Yerevan are celebrating World Music Day in different parts of the city, but one of the central parts of Yerevan, Northern Avenue, was cut off from the celebration regardless of the Culture Ministry's promised celebration. The drummer girls were supposed to perform at Northern Avenue at 14:00, but the ministry told "A1+" that the group's director had switched the hour to 20:00 without any notification.

Until then, only musicians passing by the avenue reminded people of the celebration and some musicians weren't even aware of the day's symbol.

Today wasn't the only day that cellist Alexander Karakhanyan didn't express his concerns about the quality of music.

"Unfortunately, the nature of music in Armenia has changed. People demand more pop music and ignore classical music. Just from the angle of finance, classical music is in very poor condition with few workplaces and very low salaries," he told "A1+".

The musician says Armenian society, especially the youth listens to the music that is delivered, but that doesn't form taste.

"If people hear classical music 10 hours a day, just like they listen to pop music, they will still listen to classical music ten years from now," Alexander added.

Student of the Orchestra Department at Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory Tigran Poghosyan is more optimistic.

"I'm a little amazed. Adults are usually the ones attending classical music concerts in Europe, but there are more youth attending those concerts in Armenia," said Tigran Poghosyan.
