Nobody controls the underground passageway
Citizens of Yerevan continue to put their lives at risk by not using the underground passageway at the Grigor Lusavorich-Mashtots Avenue intersection. The intersection is littered, and there is no lighting at all.
"It's like a junkyard. Instead of taking care of this passageway, they are building Northern Avenue and huge banks," passer-by Armik Vardanyan said with indignation.
Armen Gasparyan, who lives near the passageway, says the people hold their noses when passing by.
"I often cross the street, and police officers have given me warnings several times. Instead of giving me warnings, they should take measures for citizens to pass through the passageway," resident Alyona Isahakyan said.
Member of Yerevan's Council of Elders, president of "Kentron 1" condominium Suren Nersisyan, who lives next to the passageway, had assured "A1+" last year that the passageway would be renovated and would have lighting.
"Studies have been conducted and plans have been made. If it isn't renovated by the end of this year, it will be renovated by the end of the second quarter of 2012," the condominium president assured.
According to Mr. Nersisyan, the underground passageway at Grigor Lusavorich-Mashtots Avenue intersection is washed and cleaned from time to time.
Gayane Safaryan lives next to the passageway and assures that she has never seen anyone wash or clean the passageway.
The condominium president says the residents don't keep the area clean, but citizens tend to differ.
"How can they say that? This is for the good of residents. It's not just garbage that residents should clean," Alyona Isahakyan said.
Gayane, a resident, called on everyone to start from themselves. "The municipality can't guard each person," she said.
