Province “welcomes” with trash
The area surrounding the gates entering Syunik province is a real junkyard.
The area near the gates is a bus stop for many, and many tourists are surprised to see the entrance to the province in that condition.
Ukraine-based Janna is visiting Armenia for the first time in the past 15 years and is surprised to see such attitude toward nature.
"This area looked so beautiful in the distance and that is why I told my husband to make a stop. But when we got here, we were disappointed," said Janna.
There are piles of trash and broken glass all around the gates to Syunik, and the smell of the area reminds one of a public restroom.
There is a small swamp full of bottles, bags and other objects near the monument. Villagers also use this area as a small market where prices are incomparably higher than other places.
As a rule, prices are higher in Armenia's provinces. For instance, a 100-dram ice cream is sold for 150 drams and a 100-dram pastry is sold for 150 drams in one of the stores in Goris. It turns out that the prices for retail products are 50 percent higher.
