“Don’t turn the city into a disaster zone”
Residents of building 127/1 located at 35th Street of Nor Aresh joined citizens who hold demonstrations in front of the government building on government session days. The building has been recognized as a building that is subject to a 4th degree collapse for over 10 years.
Three months ago, the Council of Elders confirmed the allocation of 1 billion drams for resettlement, but president of "Luys" condominium Albert Gevorgyan told "A1+" that that sum is not enough to solve the issue.
"Karen Karapetyan appealed to the government for more funding. He was denied once, appealed again and now we are here to support our mayor so that they don't turn our Yerevan into a disaster zone," said the condominium president.
The residents say their health is deteriorating every day due to the building's humidity. Underground water has already reached the basements and has caused crracks in the walls.
Many children live in this building with a 500 person capacity and they were also standing with their parents in front of the government building. They were holding signs reading "Our city is not a disaster zone plan for you, please be guided by the existing RA laws and resolutions", "SOS", "We demand that you provide additional funding for the resettlement of residents according to Resolution 130 adopted in 1999".
"How can we convince the government that it is on the verge of collapse? Come and you will see that it is collapsing," said resident Agnesa Hakhnazaryan.
Police officers were more attentivve toward these residents and weren't letting them stand in front of the government building.
