U.S. provides third tranche of assistance to Armenia
Within the framework of the $50 million Assistance Agreements signed in 2010 between the U.S. and Armenian governments, USAID/Armenia Mission Director Jatinder Cheema and Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan signed on September 17, 2011 the third tranche of U.S. assistance to Armenia providing $8.3 million to further support Armenia's economic growth and $8.8 million to advance its health and social reform.
Under the Economic Growth Agreement, USAID will help promote a competitive and diversified private sector in Armenia. The program will foster more productive enterprises and value chains, improve policy and regulatory environments, strengthen workforce skills, and enhance public-private sector partnerships. In addition, the program will work to improve policy and management practices for key infrastructure, such as energy, water and telecommunications.
Under the Health and Social Reform Agreement, USAID will continue to support improvements to the health and social services provision in Armenia and increase public expenditure in health care and social protection.
