Fighting against destructive sects
The Armenian government is launching a public struggle against destructive sects. "We are developing a strategy for fighting against destuctive sects," Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan announced during a discussion on the topic today.
"The religious conscience and freedoms of religion of humans and citizens are protected and respected at the highest level in Armenia," Baghdasaryan explained.
He stated that sects cause a threat to the country's security in terms of religion and that the government would not make any concessions in the fight against them.
"The development of the strategy can in no way have an impact on the restriction of humans' and citizens' fundamental liberties of conscience, religion and faith," Artur Baghdasaryan informed.
How can it not have an impact? Baghdasaryan didn't touch upon that question in his speech, but he did mention that the government is taking the road toward spiritual rebirth and democratic development and that sects can have a devastating impact on Armenian families, the society and democratic institutions. Baghdasaryan also explained this struggle by the fight that European Union-member states are leading against sects.
"Lithuania grants a juridical status to the religious organizations that are recognized as an inseparable part of the history, spiritual and social heritage of Lithuania," the NS Secretary said.
