“Nothing but wastes will remain in Sotk”
Environmentalists and members of several non-governmental organizations fighting for Sevan's safety returned from Sotk last evening.
After holding a green action called "S.O.S. Sevan" in front of Serzh Sargsyan's residence, they left for Sotk to continue the protest there.
President of EcoLur NGO Inga Zarafyan told "A1+" that joining the activists in Gegharkunik province were members of several NGOs in Sevan. They have presented the copy of their protest-demand addressed to Serzh Sargsyan to the governor of Gegharkunik province.
We inform that the environmentalists are fighting against GeoProMining Gold and demanding that the company put an end to the installation of a crushing and grinding device for grinding the gold ore in Sotk.
In an interview with "A1+", Zarafyan mentioned that there had been attempts to not let them enter the crushing-sorting complex in Sotk and that only after negotiations were the presidents of EcoLur and the Green Union of Armenia NGOs allowed to enter the complex without cameras.
According to Inga Zarafyan, seeing the constant functioning of the grinding devices, they became convinced that nothing besides wastes and toxic substances would remain there in a couple of years.
The environmentalists will continue fighting for the demolition of the complex and will demand punishing GeoProMining Gold for breaching RA legislation.
