Sitting strike near waterfall, uncertain period
Twelve members of the "Let's Preserve Trchkan Waterfall" civil initiative will start a sitting strike for an uncertain period today. They left for the construction site and announced that they would stay there until the construction was put to an end.
In case of need, activists will be replaced with new ones. "Activists from Gyumri, as well as residents of Nalband and Mets Parni villages have already expressed willingness to join us. We believe only through unity will the illegal acts permitted by the Ministry of Nature Protection be put to an end," environmentalist Mariam Sukhudyan announced before leaving.
We remind that a small hydro-electric station is being built at the Trchkan Waterfall located in Mets Parni village with permission from the Ministry of Nature Protection.
