Supermarkets cheated buyers, sold margarine spreads as butter

The State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) has imposed a fine on several companies which reportedly sold margarine spreads in Yerevan stores under the guise of butter. The fake butter was revealed as a result of laboratory testing carried out by a special unit of the State Committee for Economic Protection.

As a result, Bio-Food, Brand Leader, Kartel-Anna, Feliks-Sarg and Artis hsvr been fined 3 million drams each for cheating consumers by offering a higher price for a cheaper product. The retail companies were also actually charged for changing the packaging labels on the product from "spread" to butter
Most of the companies admitted the violation and promising not to repeat it in the future.

Commission decided to impose a greater fine of them in case new violations are recorded, SCPEC press service reported.
