CEO of Star Divide CJSC Vahan Kerobyan has responded to the decision taken by the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition.

The SCPEC yesterday fined several businesses involved in the import and sale of butter, including Star Divide CJSC.

According to the SCPEC, these businesses have sold butter spread as butter through unequal competition.

"First, we think it is important to mention that Star Divide CJSC has not received any super profits since the butter spread has never been sold at the same price as butter. The company has not had the goal of concealing the identity of the products," Kerobyan said.

He declares that the work of agencies ensuring product quality inspection in Armenia, the norms and standards are still rather underdeveloped and they create problems for consumers and businesses.

"Although we highly appreciate the SCPEC's regulation of the market, we find that by taking into account the above mentioned considerations, the fine is too high and it has a direct impact on the price of our services. For that reason, we think it is important for the SCPEC to conduct a more in-depth study of the situation and reveal the issues, which in turn will become a direction for developing mechanisms to solve and prevent issues," Vahan Kerobyan said.

We remind that the companies that have violated the law by selling the butter spread as butter have been fined 30 million drams.
