Plundered Gospel auctioned at Sotheby's?
A 17th century Armenian Gospel was recently auctioned at Sotheby's in London. The starting price for the manuscript was 4.000-6.000 pound, however it was sold for 13.750 pound.
It is still unknown how the Armenian Gospel appeared at Sotheby's.
According Tehran's Arax weekly, the manuscript may have been among the goods looted from the monastery of St. Savior of Isfahan. The newspaper urges the diocesan council of the Armenian Diocese in Isfahan to publish the list of plundered goods and specify whether the auctioned manuscript belonged to the monastery or not.
Earlier in June, two Armenians tried to auction in London national heritage relics belonging to the monastery of St. Savior. Though they were arrested the diocesan council has not publicized the list of plundered things.
