The European Court of Human Rights has denied Mikhail Khodorkovsky's petition for political refuge.

"Comersant" newspaper writes: "This means that Khodorkovsky will receive compensation for being kept under arrest for a long time and under poor conditions, but he hasn't been recognized as a political prisoner. Thus, the decision has entered into legal force."

At the same time, the European Court of Human Rights has acknowledged the violation of Khodorkovsky's fundamental rights, that is, the fact that he was arrested and kept in a prison that didn't meet European standards, and the Court has given a 10,000 Euro compensation for the moral damage that was caused. The Court has also set 14,543 Euros for technical expenditures and legal support. Russia will transfer the entire sum to Khodorkovsky within three months.

Russia's authorized person at the European Court of Human Rights told the newspaper that Russia won't appeal the Court's decision.
