Demolition of the "Pak Shuka" (Closed Market) in Yerevan has been going on for the past three days now. Citizens of Yerevan say the purpose of the demolition of the Pak Shuka, which was recognized as one of Armenia's best architectural structures in the 1950, is to rebuild it as a supermarket.

"A1+"'s crew today tried to find out what was going on inside the architectural structure that is considered the gates to Yerevan. Marat Apeyan, who presented himself as the market's representative, strictly prohibited the crew from entering and filming the market, saying that the market director Vahagn Mkrtchyan wasn't at the site.

"I spoke with Vahagn Mkrtchyan and he said our press speaker would hold a press conference in 10-20 days," Marat Apeyan told "A1+".

The market was under large-scale construction and there was a large hole. Workers say the demolition of the market will lead to the construction of an underground parking lot, but the market representative tends to differ.

"We are destroying the basements and cleaning up. I can't say more than that. We will provide more information later," Marat Apeyan said.

The market administration promised that the market wouldn't lose its image and that traders would continue to work there after renovation.

We remind that the Pak Shuka of Yerevan was created by architect Grigor Aghababyan and engineer Hamazasp Arakelyan.
