Experts assure that there is no chickenpox epidemic in Armenia and that this is a seasonal disease.

"When it's cold, people gather in warm places, and when they are closer together, the transmission of diseases through the air becomes more likely. There is no epidemic in Armenia," Head of the Division for Contagious and Non-Contagious Diseases of the State Hygiene and Anti-Epidemic Inspectorate at the RA Ministry of Health Lilit Avetisyan told "A1+".

According to Avetisyan, there has not been any increase of the chickenpox epidemic compared to the same period last year.

"Chickenpox is a disease that passes easily, but only for children. If adults have chickenpox, it is more severe," the epidemiologist said.

Ninety percent of the time, children under the age of 15 are mainly the ones with chickenpox. The symptoms appear for 10-21 days, after which the patient starts having headaches, feels weak and has a high temperature.

Epidemiologist Lilit Avetisyan advises seeing a doctor and take medicine in case of discovering chickenpox.

"If there is a sick child at home, it is advised that other children aren't sent to school or kindergarten. The air in the room has to be conditioned. Chickenpox can't be transmitted through the third person or objects," Avetisyan advised.

As for the case of Hayk Khachatryan, who died from chickenpox on December 30, Lilit Avetisyan didn't comment on that and considered it a topic that she couldn't discuss.
