Another ten families deprived of daily bread
By a decision of the municipality, a number of stalls in central Yerevan were being dismantled today morning. The owners say the city authorities are neither compensating them, nor offering them an alternative site.
The stalls mainly offer key cutting, shoe and umbrella repair services.
"They say we are free to go wherever we want. They even suggested that we leave Armenia. They have deprived us of our daily bread. They have broken us and left us with nothing," cobbler Samson Medoyan complained to A1+.
The stalls are situated in the yard of Byuzand1/3, which according to the municipality, belongs to Yerevan Project Institute. A new parking lot is planned to be constructed there.
The owners say they have paid all taxes, including that of March and cannot be driven out of business forcibly.
What is to become of these desperate craftsmen and their families? No one knows the answer to the question. The municipality representatives refrained from speaking on the subject.
Speaking to us on the phone, Arthur Gevorgyan, Head of Information and Public Relations Department at the Municipality, said he learnt about the stalls for the first time.
