Nareg Hartunian to appeal to European Court
Director of Naregatsi Art Institute Narge Hartunian and his family are offended by Deputy Head of the State Revenue Committee Armen Alaverdyan's statement according to which Nareg's case is a typical case of a Diaspora Armenian who avoids paying taxes, and it has called Nareg's charity purposes into question.
During today's press conference, Nareg Hartunian mentioned that he had imported macaroni and Tsar flour from Russia and said:
"Dear Mr. Alaverdyan, we started doing a charity a long time ago. In the 1940s and 1950s, my grandfather built a school in Aleppo, and my father started benevolence in Armenia in 1959 in different spheres."
We remind that the SRC charges Director of GH Storage Enterprises Nareg Hartunian with "avoiding to pay fines, taxes and other mandatory payments and legitimizing incomes from other sources" in large amounts. The company's property was under arrest, the director was arrested and then released.
"We don't have bad intentions for avoiding taxes and can't be. I have declared and declare that we want to see a fair verdict and we will pay the taxes," said Hartunian.
Lawyer Hayk Alumyan views what happened with the Diaspora Armenian businessman as a typical case of revenge.
"The two people who had to be held responsible according to all the data were left out, if we really did avoid paying taxes with bad intentions. Now, the case against Hartunian, the company's deputy director Ani Mnatsakanyan and accountant Artur Galstyan is hinged on the testimonies of those two people."
Hayk Alumyan assures that he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, if the interstate courts don't reach a fair verdict.
