Speedometers were turned off
On March 1-2, police registered 16,500 traffic violations in Yerevan, of which 13,000 were the result of speeding.
This is what Head of the Achilles Drivers' Rights Protection NGO Eduard Hovhannisyan said during a press conference today.
He informed that the violations took place because the speedometers placed at central streets in Yerevan had been switched off.
Hovhannisyan clarified that the speedometers were switched off on March 1 and 2 with the purpose of lowering the admissible speed limit. Whereas before it was allowed to drive at 80 km hour, now drivers must not exceed the 70 km limit.
Hovhannisyan says the speedometers were turned on last midnight and added that there would be 90 more speedometers in Yerevan.
