Armenia imports dangerous meat
In 2011, Armenia imported 11,000 tons of meat of antlered animals, 6,000 tons of pork and 281.8 kg of lamb meat from different countries, according to the data of the National Statistical Service.
President of the Consumers Association NGO Armen Poghosyan says these figures are not reliable. According to him, the cold meat that Armenia imports is not for daily sales, but for earthquakes, floods and other emergency situations.
He also calls on housewives not to use the meat in salads for a long time.
"If women prepare salads with cold meat, they should store those salads in the refrigerator and not serve them twice," Armen Poghosyan mentioned.
Poghosyan says the situation of fresh, cold meat sales is bad.
"We receive numerous alarms and complaints from citizens, saying that the meat purchased from stores and markets are not very fresh," Poghosyan said.
He also informed that his organization and the state food safety inspectorate to check meat trade spots and large factories, but the food safety inspectorate still hasn't responded.
