Those violating the constitutional rights of citizens of the Republic of Armenia must be punished
On 16 March 2012, the RA Police issued a statement by which it invited representatives of different civil initiatives and non-governmental organizations to a roundtable discussion. We have always welcomed the collaboration with citizens and state structures, if respect toward the RA Constitution, as well as man's fundamental rights and liberties lies at the core of that dialogue.
We believe that the RA Police violated the constitutional rights of us citizens of the Republic of Armenia by acting illegitimately with its punishing acts planned and organized on 14 March at 21:30 and applying brutality against us. All the corresponding bodies of the Republic of Armenia have been provided with detailed information about those violations of the law. We are certain that the breach of the RA Constitution is not a subject to negotiations, and we demand a show of necessary will to bring those who gave the command to apply force and those who applied force to justice.
After the RA Police confirms that the rule of law lies at the core of its actions, we will be ready to combine efforts to discuss several issues together, including the issues of protecting public territory, property and our national richness and disallowing illegitimate appropriation. We also inform that the citizens protecting Mashtots Park are in favor of holding such discussions in a format that will allow the discussions to be open to everyone, will allow the presence of mass media representatives and will make everything open, transparent and accountable.
We won't participate in the discussion organized by the RA Police today and won't authorize anyone to represent us on behalf of the members of our initiatives, organizations and the citizens protecting Mashtots Park.
We are determined to restore our civil rights and the rule of law, which are based exclusively on the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
