Police issuing passports?
Why doesn't the Department for Passports of the RA Police issue passports? This question arose after "A1+" received a complaint that the passport departments of different districts of Yerevan weren't issuing passports to citizens, especially citizens who have just turned 16.
"A1+" tried to find out why the citizens weren't receiving their passports.
Representative of the RA Police news service Mushegh Kroyan told "A1+" that it was "due to the computers".
"Perhaps there was a problem with the computer when somebody approached the passport department, or perhaps there was a problem with the lists. The department was supposed to have issued the passports on time," mentioned Kroyan.
When asked if it was likely that the computers at the passport departments in all districts or provinces didn't work, Kroyan said: "No, there is no such thing. The departments should have issued the passports on time."
Head of the Passport Department of the RA Police in Noyemberyan, Hayk Mamyan told Aravot Daily that new types of passports would be introduced on June 1, and that is why the database on the Department's computers is being modified. Citizens will start receiving their passports on March 26.
