Gas inflation due to elections
"The gas inflation is due to the upcoming elections," economist Bagrat Asatryan told "A1+" as he touched upon the nearly 40 dram inflation of gas and diesel.
"I have to say that there is no other evaluation at this moment. The growth of petroleum prices in the global market is fiction. The prices in the global market are almost the same as the prices in April 2011," said Asatryan.
Asatryan mentioned only one factor that could have an impact on the gas inflation at this moment, and that was the devaluation of the dollar, but that could only cause 4-5% inflation.
"But we're talking about larger figures, and it is difficult to find another explanation than the one that the inflation is linked to the elections."
Asatryan says he doesn't remember a time when global prices go down and the prices go down in Armenia as well. Everyone knows how things work in this sphere. "The primary figure of the country decides that the supplier has to supply a certain quota of petroleum and sets the prices," said Asatryan.
