Earthquake likely to hit region
Seven earthquakes have been recorded in the region on May 5-7.
"There has been an increase in the number of earthquakes, but no increase in power outages," said Head of the National Service for Seismic Defense at the Ministry of Emergency Situations Hrachya Petrosyan during a press conference today.
According to the expert, there is a deficit of energy with a 5.6 magnitude in the region, which can be complemented by another earthquake.
"The next earthquake will be 5-6 points on the Richter Scale."
Head of the Department for the Seismic Level of Buildings at the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations Gurgen Namaryan says Armenian society is not ready enough to resist the earthquake simply because a large number of buildings in Armenia can't withstand earthquakes.

On May 7 at 08:40 local time, the seismological network of the National Service for Seismic Defense at the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations registered an earthquake with a 5.9 magnitude just 28 km northwest from Sheki city in the territory of Azerbaijan.
The force of the earthquake at the epicenter was 8 points.

On the same day at 18:15, an aftershock with a 5.6 magnitude and a force of 7-8 points took place just 28 km northwest from Sheki village in the territory of Azerbaijan.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations informs that the rumors about a powerful earthquake waiting to hit Armenia are inaccurate.
"We call on people to be calm and not pay attention to false rumors. To this day, no scientist or seismic service has been able to make a quick prediction of an earthquake, that is, the precise time, place and force of the earthquake," as stated in the MES press release.
