Cruel mother-in-law’s case postponed again
Judge of the court of general jurisdiction of Ararat and Vayots Dzor provinces (Vedi city) Armen Bekshatyan today rejected the petition for his withdrawal.
The judge was presented with a withdrawal after he had upheld the petition filed by Haykanush Mikayelyan's attorney to hold a closed-door trial.
The culprit's daughter-in-law Mariam Gevorgyan's attorney Nona Galstyan told "A1+" that the trial was postponed after the decision on the petition was released since Mariam Gevorgyan's ex-husband hadn't shown up to court.
In 2009, Mariam Gevorgyan got married to David Chiroyan and left for St. Petersburg. After ten months, she returned to Armenia. In that period, Mariam had been subject to torture and even her father didn't recognize her at the airport. Mariam's ex-mother-in-law Haykanush Mikayelyan had been arrested in Russia and was arrested in Armenia. Haykanush Mikayelyan has been charged with Article 113 (2) (5) of the RA Criminal Code (causing critical but satisfactory damage to health) and Article 119 (2) (6) (cruel torture).
Mariam's ex-husband, David Chiroyan has been charged with the articles on causing damage and beating, but was released by amnesty.
The next trial will be held on June 14, but this time in Artashat city so that it will be possible to record the trial.
