Twelve-year-old Vanuhi attracts Swiss tourists
But for her earrings, it would be difficult to say whether the seller was a boy or a girl. She had short thick hair which she hid under a cap. Her eyes were not seen under the cap as she continually bowed her shamefaced head.
The twelve-year-old girl is named Vanuhi. She has been selling fruit on Yeghegnadzor - Syunik interstate highway, near the gates of Syunik for two years now. She says the prices of fruits, weighs them and sees off customers.
It was in 2011 that Vanuhi was noticed and photographed by one of the Swiss tourists. But who might think that the tourist was a photojournalist who would later submit Vanuhi's photo to a photo contest and that very photo would be recognized as the best? Vanuhi's family learnt the news this year when the photographer arrived in Armenia to ask the parents' permission in order to publish Vanuhi's photo in a book.
