The death of Major Vahe Avetyan, head of the ENT Department of the Yerevan Garrison Hospital, came as a blow to us, the Free Democrats Party said in a statement.

"It was yet another warning signaling that one of the fundamental human rights - the right to life - is not protected in Armenia. Similar tragedies cast a shadow on the country's Constitution in which we all proclaimed the Republic of Armenia as a state of law.

The brutal beating and the ensuing death of an Armenian citizen and an officer of the RA Armed Forces have created an atmosphere of depression and helplessness among the country's citizens and further deepened distrust towards the future of their Motherland," reads the statement.
Free Democrats extends its deepest condolences to the family ands relatives of Vahe Avetyan.

"We strongly condemn the June 17 incident at Harsnakar Restaurant and demand that the authorities investigate and identify the real culprits, otherwise we find it superfluous to speak about the supremacy of human rights and their protection in the RA.

This is a tragic precedent, and we urge the Armenian authorities to take all necessary steps to prevent its recurrence in the future," said the party.

Vahe Avetyan, 35, died in a Yerevan hospital on June 29 after being severely beaten at Yerevan's Harsnakar Restaurant on June 17. He died at the Defense Ministry Military Hospital without regaining consciousness.

Six people, including [Harsnakar owner] Ruben Hayrapetyan's bodyguard, have been arrested on charges of beating military physicians at the Harsnakar Restaurant. Garik Margaryan, Arman Baghdasaryan, David Adamyan, Arman Khachatryan, Norayr Hayrapetyan and Arthur Babloyan are charged with Article 112, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code (causing life-threatening bodily injuries to two and more persons).
