Economy Minister presents "optimistic" figures

Armenia has had 7,8 percent economic growth in the first half of 2012, Armenian Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan said on Monday while presenting the economic figures of the reporting period.

"We have witnessed positive trends and activeness in the economy," said the minister.

"We are restoring our economy and our industrial potential, at the same time we are complying it with international standards," he said.

Mr. Davtyan voiced hope that the dynamics would be preserved by the end of the year. Besides, he noted that new enterprises will be put into operation in the nearest future.

The minister did not name those enterprises, he only mentioned that the ministry is carrying out monitoring in some 200 enterprises. Sixty of them will be rendered assistance by the ministry.

Speaking about small and medium-sized businesses, Tigran Davtyan said the ministry had upheld the applications of 4400 businesses, 93% of which operate in provinces and 7% in Yerevan.
