PC holds discussion with TV companies

The Public Council of the Republic of Armenia today held another discussion on the issue related to television broadcasting.

This time the discussion was with the heads and representatives of Armenian Public Television, Shant TV, ARMENIA TV, Shoghakat, Kentron, R, Yerevan and Dar 21 television stations.

President of the Public Council Vazgen Manukyan first presented the discussions that had been held and the proposals that had been made over the past month, after which the representatives of the television stations expressed their views and generally agreed on the need of regulating the sphere of television broadcasting.

The representatives raised several issues related to content, legislation and advertisements on television, while the representatives of private television stations raised the issue of having equal competition.

The duties and responsibility of Armenian Public Television in front of the people were underlined and importance was attached to the need of broadcasting social advertisements that would be educational and disciplinary. The sides also proposed to apply the state order, which can refer not only to Armenian Public Television, but also private television companies. Member of the Public Council Hovik Musayelyan proposed to create a working group of representatives of Armenian Public Television and the Public Council to undertake reforms in broadcasting on Armenian Public Television.

The Public Council and the representatives of the television companies reached an agreement on holding several similar discussions and presenting the results of those discussions, as well as the results of other discussions held and to be held by the Public Council in the form of specific proposals to the President of the Republic of Armenia in September, reports the Public Council.
