Assyrians take offence at our authorities
Support A1+!The head of the Assyrian community Arsen Melikyan is offended at Armenian authorities that expelled an Armenian-Assyrian family from the country because they did not have any documents confirming their Armenian nationality.
"We had such families, for example, in 2003 a family moved from Iraq into Armenia. The father was an Armenian, the mother was an Assyrian, Armenia received them, while in this case the opposite took place and the law banned them from entering the country," the community head told A1+. The Assyrian community has prepared a proposal to be submitted to the Public Council.
The proposal suggests making an amendment to the law so that the spouses in the mixed marriage and representatives of other Christian communities can enter Armenia. In his words, even a family of two Assyrian spouses that fled Syria should not have been expelled.
