Soldier diagnosed with acute blood disease needs treatment
Romik Khocharyan, a resident of Sevkar village of Armenia's Tavush marz, has applied to "We Will Not Remain Silent" Youth Initiative for help.
As Khocharyan told the initiative, soldier Artur Kocharyan, who is serving in a military unit based in Yerevan's Nubarashen district, suffers from an acute blood disease. The disease was detected 10 months after Kocharyan was drafted into the army. The initial diagnosis was jaundice given by our ‘professional' doctors.
After the doctors confirmed that the treatment is possible only abroad, the Ministry asked the soldier's family to find the most reasonable treatment option, promising to cover the costs of treatment. The cheapest treatment costing a total of $67,000 was available in Moscow. However, on learning the price, A. Parsadanyan and G. Hayrapetyan, senior officials at the Ministry of Defense, reportedly recommended the desperate family to find sponsors, saying that they cannot afford the costs and can provide no more than AMD 3 million.
Artur Kocharyan was reportedly honored with the defense minister's award for exemplary service.
